Ushers
Trinity Episcopal Church Ushers Ushers are usually the first members of the parish that newcomers and parishioners see. Their mannerism and attitude have a subtle, but potentially very powerful, influence in setting the tone for the worship experience. For visitors and parishioners alike, it is the first indication of the experience that awaits them. Ushers also provide a valuable service in providing continuity for many of the major services that are conducted at Trinity. They are often viewed as the quiet hands that help make our services run so smoothly.
What does Ushering at Trinity entail? Generally, usher duties begin before services when they are called upon to ensure that the loading zone is properly marked, greet parishioners, distribute service bulletins, assist with the attendance count, and offer assistance to those needing help in seating. For some special services, they may even be tasked with providing additional chairs as needed. During the service, ushers collect the offering, release parishioners to receive communion, and assist parishioners up and down the chancel steps during communion. They may also be called upon to identify to the celebrant anyone who needs to have communion brought to them. After the service, ushers go through the pews collecting discarded service bulletins and any loose paper, replacing hymnals and prayer books in the pews, and ensure that kneelers are in the upright position. They take and secure the food baskets gathered during the service. Finally they assist in the collection of the offering and ensuring that it is properly and securely deposited.
What time commitments are required by Ushers at Trinity? Ushers are used at both the 8:00 AM and 10:30AM Sunday services and for other special services, such as Easter and Christmas services, throughout the year. Ushers are organized by teams, as well as by service times. Usher teams are generally called upon to serve one service per month.
How can I become a Trinity Usher? Ushering at Trinity provides an opportunity to put into practice Trinity’s mission of seeking and serving Christ in all persons. If you would like to be part of this wonderful ministry, please contact Wayne Williams |
